On rainy days we'd go swimming out..
1) The Golden Screen, James McNeil Whistler, 1864.
In the first painting by James McNeil Whistler, the painting is first role because he is recording the world around him. He demonstrates a woman sitting in a bed holding up a paper she seems to be reading in her room in a long dress. The name of this art work seems to be representational to the room that she is in because the room is golden colored. This is an example of a representational art work.
2) Convergence, Jackson Pollock, 1952
In this painting by Pollock, the painting is fourth role because he is showing us the world in an innovative way. He is demonstrating a spalsh of an array of colors consisting of: black, white, red, yellow, and blue, all splattered around his work. The name of his art work says it all, "converging" means to come together from different directions and eventually join and that is what the splattered paint is doing in his work. This painting is an example of an abstract work.
3) Railway Crossing, Fernand Leger 1919
In this painting by Leger, the painting is first role because his work is demonstrating a railway crossing, also an example of the world around him. His work is depicting all the signs at a rail way crossings and the intersections embodied with a whole bunch of shapes and colors. The title of the work also reassures you that it is a railway crossing. This painting is an example of abstract work.
