On rainy days we'd go swimming out..
For this assaignment, I enjoyed the experience of attending a private viewing of the designs of Ralph Provisero in MDC North Gallery. I never knew that the school had a gallery, and it was nice to attend the gallery with the students and the teacher. We were asked to write about seven, and to elaborate on our favorite one and these are mine:

My reflection: The Black Eye was immediatley my favorite piece simply because eyes portray mystery and perspective and it instantly left me intrigued. The eye is a symbol of vigilance and a window to the soul. The background is a bright colored red and very lively. I wondered why the artist decided to use such a vivid and bright color as opposed to a dull or darker color or tone. What I could interpret from this piece is that even when a person is surrounded by vividness, happyness, cheerfulness, or excitment (the red background) their is still always a speck of evil in this word (symbolism for the black eye). The title is important because it emphasizes perhaps the most important part of this particular work, the eye.

In my experience attending the museum I went with my mother and it was her first time going to a museum. I enjoyed seeing all the creative art works, even those I didn't fully understand. I also enjoyed seeing my mothers face amazed at everything because it was her first time. Work that caught my attention was the "One thousand and one Possible Nights, 2008" collage on paper. I found it so complex yet simple and beautiful. My favorite work was the "Rain Rains". The materials used were Aluminum buckets, water, steel cable, & dimensions variable. The title of the work was significant because it portrayed what he was trying to show in his work, rain. Drips of water would fall from the bucket hanging in the air, to the bucket on the floor. The materials were also significant since it helped potray the ilusion of rain dripping slowly. Another thing I loved were the ribbons that were stuck in holes in the walls that had wish petitions. I found it so thoughtful and cute, and it seemed to have captured everyones attention since I saw everyone walk out with a couple of ribbons.
1) The Golden Screen, James McNeil Whistler, 1864.
In the first painting by James McNeil Whistler, the painting is first role because he is recording the world around him. He demonstrates a woman sitting in a bed holding up a paper she seems to be reading in her room in a long dress. The name of this art work seems to be representational to the room that she is in because the room is golden colored. This is an example of a representational art work.
2) Convergence, Jackson Pollock, 1952
In this painting by Pollock, the painting is fourth role because he is showing us the world in an innovative way. He is demonstrating a spalsh of an array of colors consisting of: black, white, red, yellow, and blue, all splattered around his work. The name of his art work says it all, "converging" means to come together from different directions and eventually join and that is what the splattered paint is doing in his work. This painting is an example of an abstract work.
3) Railway Crossing, Fernand Leger 1919
In this painting by Leger, the painting is first role because his work is demonstrating a railway crossing, also an example of the world around him. His work is depicting all the signs at a rail way crossings and the intersections embodied with a whole bunch of shapes and colors. The title of the work also reassures you that it is a railway crossing. This painting is an example of abstract work.
For this assaigment we had to choose a museum to visit and the one I chose was the Lowe Art Museum. It was my first time in a museum, and I found everything to be breathtaking. I was amazed at how vigilant the security guards are, and how they watch over the artworks like hawks. Something else that took me by storm was how silent musems are, it felt comfortably nice and allowed all the visitors to fully observe and soak in the art work. I decide that as I was walking through the museum, I would select the art work that I felt most gravatated too. As I was walking around the musuem I thought I would find typical portraits or still lifes of fruits, but I was dazed at the creativity and uniqueness of the paintings that surrounded me. Finally, as I was walking through a section of deamon and underground art work, I found myself mesmerized by "Underword" by Ann Mccoy.
The title of my collage is called "Unexpected Tragedy."
Technique used - Collage.
My collage was made on a 9 by 12 black construction paper, glue, scissors, and a collection of black and white 911 photographs. A collage is an artistic composition made of various materials (as paper, cloth, or wood) glued on a surface.
- Expressive art work.
I choose to do my collage strictly black and white collage to express how 911 was not a postive event and many people have bad memories of the day. What I intended to do was just put a whole bunch of pictures of what happened in 911 and some of the reactions of 911 all mounted on one another in collage form so it would impact the person looking at my collage, since for many americans it was such an impacting day. I placed lots of pictures of the buildings being attacked and people crying for that purpose. I think when people look at my collage it stricks them as impacting and it memorializes the life changing negative event in the U.S so I believe it came out the way I enteded it to be and I am satisfisfied with it.
I define art as any way of manifesting self expression for the world to see. I believe its anything that can express your individuality, thoughts, feelings, and mood. I think it can be demonstrated in many ways such as the tongue of a writer, the paintings of an artist, or the lyrics of a muscian. I believe even the way we dress is a form of art because you express your individuality and your mood according to what you are wearing in a particular day. Since everyone thinks differently and has different taste, I don't believe art can be judged. To each its own, but as long as the persons feelings are being demonstrated on to something (lyrics, paintings, etc) I believe that's art.
