On rainy days we'd go swimming out..
The De La Cruz collection was very cool, I found the museum all together to be very nice and vast. I found a love for to pieces in particular which made me greater appreciate art. The first was the collection of mirrors. The 52 mirrors were representational of all the weeks in a year and were all different color. Some warm colors, some come cool colors. I thought that was representational to life, because we have lively weeks, boring weeks, and just all together depressing weeks. The mirrors were infront of newspaper coverings which all pertained to Miami. As Miami citizens this was all together a representation of all of our lives through the fourth role of the artist seeing the world in new and innovative ways. I thought this to be a very cool way to express an idea. The second work to grasp my attention was a wall in the second floor that contained a large quote. From what I grasped from the quote it meant that life occurs so fast we don't have enough time to acknowledge the moments, because before we know it, everythings over. It was representational to the way artist saw life, and again portrayed the fourth role, seeing the world in new and innovative ways. All together this was a very nice museum, more cliche and typical as opposed to the rubbell collection but still very nice.
This museum is perhaps the best museum I have ever attended. I found it so eclectic, modern, and attention grabbing and I have never encountered anything like it. This was surley not your stereotypical musuem, it did not have your modern still life paintings with a whole bunch of portraits of elderly people, but actually had a very modern feel. I feel like the whole museum was designed to portray the fourth role of the artist - seeing the world in new and innovative ways, every work was representational of that notion. What I loved about this museum is that it wasn't solely based on paintings, as a matter of fact, over half of this museum was based on models. My favorite pieces included the basket balls floating in the fish tank, the essay written about coke, and the lights that had phrases spelled out.I believe that the lights were trying to send out different messages about life. It had a very lively choice of colors and I believe the quotes hanging of the lights were representational to different moments of our lives. This museum was also very weird, which amused me. The rock structure mourning dead women send out a strong message as it was eerily colored grey and black with low lighting and lighted candles surrounding it, and also not to mention the model of eight ment having an orgy. This museum all together truly broadened my eyes to viewing art differently. I no longer see art through its convential deffinition, I feel a greater appreciation for it now since this museum brought such a different feel.
At the beginning of this class, I belived that art only pertained to still lifes, paintings, sculptures, writing, and music, but I was very inacurate. My opinion began to change as I was exposed to so many new art museums I have never heard of, were I found a work of art made of manniquins, christmas lights wrapped around to make a circle, a curtain just made out of flowers from the ceiling to the floor. I would have never expected that to be art, atleast not four months ago. Now, with a more elaborate explanation, what is art? Well art is our every thought emotion and idea. Art is writing music sports. Art is any form of self expression or anything that reflects or evokes some time of feeling or mood. Art is all around us, art is everywhere. We are all art.

This rock is rather simple, it has no complexity to it and it's a metaphor on how I see life. Flipped on the bottom of the rock, I have waves, some colored in gray and others left white. The gray waves are representational of the bad things that occur as we live, and the way is representational of the positive events that occur. On the top of the flower, I have the a pair of closed, flowers, and music notes. The closed eyes is representational for The Beatles quote " Living is easy with eyes closed" from Strawberry Fields Forever. I believe that the less you analyze situations, the funner and more exciting life will be for you. Next, my rock is flooded with an abundance of flowers. Back to my notion of me believing that life is simple, I intended to represent these through my abstract deformed flowers. Life is a beauty that fails to go noticed, through the good and the harsdhips. I also included musical symbols, because I believe that music is one of the best forms of self expression. For me, music is my favorite type of art. Even if your not good with words, music always seems to have the solutuon. So that's why I included the musical note in my rock.
"Glass"
Day 1 - I took this photagraph in the house of a friend while her mother was sharing drinks. It embodies the way I view life. Some view the glass as half full, others view the glass as half empty. Some of us focus on the negative, and some of us focus on the positive. I decided to put the frame on the counter and take the picture from top to bottom to grasp the concept.
"Dull and life"
Day 2- Outside of my school a vender was selling fruits and I saw a basket full of apples. The reason I chose to photagraph these apples is for the emphasis on repitition, and also the metaphor of life I took from the apples. Sometimes things are dull (the green shade in the apple), but their will always be moments of joy and excitement (the red shade). The abundance of apples to represent the repitition of all these dull and exciting moments reacurring constantly through out our lives.
"Life is a book, life is a story!"
Day 3- I spend an afternoon at Barnes and Noble and I decided to photagraph these books. Books obtain stories usually of essential aspects of life such as love, tragedies, comedies, and memoirs. Since this project is a reflection of life through a frame I decided to photagraph books because I believe books and writings in general are a documentation of life.
"Warhol"
Day 4 - I took this photagraph at the supermarket. The moral of this photo was the emphasis on reptition. Life is monotonous at times and we all seem to be living a repetitive, cycle like life. I feel at times that I am always doinf the same thing, which is studying and home work and work itself. Sometimes things lack excitiement and are just repetitive and boring such as all the cans and stacked shelves at grocery stores.
"Ordinary"
Day 5 - Walking outside of the mall I decided to take the photo of a tree. Life and tree's are very similar. The roots and trunk of a tree are very importanting, and its the first part of a tree which also embodies are first years of life. Are first years of life define who we are, and is a key indicator of how we are going to be in the future. Traits we have when we are young usually stay with us, the only difference is that as we grow older we learn more and we evolve as the top of the tree does. It burst into an abundance of leaves which makes it a tree in the end and all the little leaves are important into making the tree. I believe this relates to actual life in the sense that every single thing molds is into who we are, such as all the leaves end forming a tree. Through this photagraph I tried to emphasize the tree as its meant to stand out being placed infront of a white wall.
" We all deteriorate, we all fall"
Day 6 - I decided to photagraph medicine bottles in my grandmothers house. I noticed the repitition because all the bottles looked alike and the movement as some bottles were standing and some had fallen. I assosiated this with life because when were young were all filled with life, and as we grow older we start to deteriorate and we need more and more medication to help keep our lives.
Day 7- This first photagraph is called "Life as we make it!" I chose a wall with a primary color that was assymetrical to portray a design and just a flatly painted wall; to portray excitement and to portray sameness, consistency and lacking of excitment. The second photagraph is called " planets " has the element of repitition and hence emphasis. Their is a triadic form in between the two balls and the basket in which the balls are resting on.
The third photagraph is called " Interlocking cycle " it portrays repitition, movement, and emphasis. It's a chamber lock of hearts and its a metaphor to life. The heart's that we want sometimes want someone elses heart instead of ours and its an ongoing cycle.
Attending a gallery/gallery opening was very different than my experience in a museum. In a museum, the setting is much spacious and larger, as opposed to in a gallery in which takes place in a small more confined setting. In a museum, you see a variety of works by a variety of artist, in a gallery you only see the work of one artist or possibly just about two more. At Wynwood, many artist were at their galleries, something that you would not typically see in a museum. Since museums contain works of all artist and of many years, some artist might be dead or out of state, but galleries are a bit more personal and you have a higher chance of seeing the artist. In galleries, you also get a better taste of the artist since your seeing several of their works, it's alot more personal than a musuem.
I am excited to say that I have now officially attended the Wynwood Art Walk, and it turned out being alot more expectacular than I invisioned it to be. As I first got there, I was amazed to see how much people actually attend! It was super crowded, and finding a good parking spot seemed like a mission. Our professor asked that we meet her by the fairy mural, which were walls from top to bottom covered in graffiti. To be honest, I had never seen real graffiti art work only the vandalization of teenagers on the highway, I was absolutley breath taken. I asked myself alot of questions while I staired at some murals, such as how did the artist practice doing graffiti, how long does a mural takes them to complete, how long did it take the artist to perfect graffiti art and etc. Out of all the art forms I know of, I found graffiti to be the most self expressive and my favorite!
Interviewed Artist: Pete KirillKirill did mutiple paintings of north korean people, he wanted to express that capitalism and communism aren't much different. He wanted to emphasize how in communism, they persuade people to believe and think in one way only, and that everyone and everything should be the same. In capitalism, he was trying to show how it's not much different, as kids, we grow up with certain ingraved believes and thoughts and trends we should mimic and abid by. He wanted to portray how communism and capitalism we're the same thing, just with different titles.
Yesterday our class had a unique assaignment in which we were asked to do a treasure hunt around our school. The treasure hunt involved us taking notes and finding ten specific sculptures around the campus. To my astonishment, I did not even know we had so many sculptures around the campus. As I walked around I didn't know how I never noticed such iconic pieces. The scupltures were the following:
"Learning Gives You Wings"

Mixed Media Sculpture
By: Rafeal Consuegra
The message: I found in this work is the ladder of education and knowledge. As you begin school you start from the very bottom, and if your not good at school as well, but you can always rise. As years go by you reach higher grade levels, and even if your not the smartest student through practice you can also rise to the top. The angels climbing represent the steps they take in school in order to venture out to the world once school is over. Once your done with school, the world is yours for the taking. You can fly or roam to whatever you want to be in life, the world is yours for the taking through the key element of education.

The message: I noticed that this was a cube that was cut into three pieces and being transformed. The message I instantly receieved is that for everyone life has a different path and we all venture out in different directions. Our lives are constantly transforming, changing, and reconstructing.
Piet(black sculpture)

18 x 6 x 4
Painted Steel
By: Alfredo Halegua
The message: What I grabbed from this piece is how everything that stands is not whole, Not everything that looks put together is complete. Their is always something missing. When you view this piece from the top it is whole but towards the bottom it had a cut out part missing.
Pie in the Sky
(Yellow sculpture)

Alfredo Halequa,
Painted Steel
13 x 13 x 9
The message: What I obtained from this work is the impression of a bright prescence that does not fail to go unnoticed. Such as for example how lighting bolts always stand out, especially during the silence and darkness of the night time.
For the Birds
(yellow and black sculpture)
1990
Alfredo Halequa
Painted Steel
The message: What I took from this piece is just a sanctuary, a place to rest. The work is shaped in form of a seat in someway. Or just maybe a place to rest for the birds and other animals as the title of the work suggest.
Orlanda Arch1987
(Stainless steel sculpture)
Alfredo Halequa
The message: What I captured from this sculpture is the essence of resistance, remaining firm. The way it is positioned and how it is standing is very firm, and seems very heaavy, but it doesn't look like it could ever fall. It looks strongly intact and in place.
Horizontal Abstraction
Alfredo Halequa
Epoxy
(organic)

The message: What I took from this work is the abstract of elephant sculpture. From the Left of the photo you see the circle which is the eye of the elephant, and the trunk hanging down.
Cubolic
Alfredo Halequa
(Geometric shape)
Painted steel
9 x 9 x 9
The message: As I walked around this sculpture I noticed that the inner part of it was missing. What I took from this piece is how some people fail to recognize the lack of important things in their life, and only worry about how people see them from the outside perspective and fail to recognize the bigger picture.
Pheles1991
Rafael Consuegra
Painted Steel
2 x 3 x 8
The message: What I obtained from this piece was an animal that belongs in the grass, some type of insect because of the balls that are part of the sculpture. I pictured insects running around the grass, as the sculpture also lays on a grassy area.
TorsoAlfredo Halequa
1961
Epoxy
The message: What I conveyed from this was ofcourse a torso. To be more exact, the torso of a woments body. Bodies come in all shapes and sizes and they are all different. I believe Halequa was trying to express the beauty in diversity.
